Background
Announced in March of 2023, the 16" Framework Laptop is set to be Framework's largest, fully reconfigurable laptop to date. Unlike the standard 13" Framework laptop, the 16" Framework laptop will feature six module bays, along with an expansion bay system designated for graphics cards. The keyboard and trackpad are also modular, and can even be offset.
The 16" Framework Laptop will be available in late 2023, however Framework's developer program will allow you to get started with designing Input Modules and Expansion Bay Modules with open source design documentation that is available on Framework's official GitHub Page.
Identification
While the 16" Framework laptop is fully customizable so the components may differ depending on the individual who builds it, there are certain features that are consistent for all devices:
- The laptop is less than 18 mm thick and can expand to 21 mm at the back of the device you install a discrete GPU.
- The bottom cover is a single, molded, magnesium alloy part. It is rigid and lightweight. The top cover is a thin anodized aluminum.
- The case is a silver color.
- The bezel has a magnetic attachment and can be switched out easily with different color options (currently black, orange, and lavender).
- The black ++Framework logo++ is on the center back of the top case.
- You will find the serial number on the box it comes in. It should also be under the second add-on port. However, if you don't see it there, look under the other ports.
