After many years my faithful iMac had become terribly slow. After doing all the maintenance I could I realised that the 2GB of RAM was the most limiting factor. I put up with the slow as molasses response of the iMac for a year or so until I finally cracked. I looked up how to upgrade and found iFixit. At the same time I thought I'd upgrade my HDD.
With the iFixit android app by my side I really felt in control. The RAM was a doddle and the HDD replacement guide really helped me get the job done. Thanks so much.
You'll need another person to hold the LCD panel on the iMac when you are disconnecting the cables. This wasn't mentioned in the guide but I don't see how it could be done any other way.

I needed more RAM to increase my ability to game and work on my MacBook. I decided to upgrade my wife's too.
Dropped the RAM in today after I got the parts but have not had the chance to try it out just yet. too busy working but it seems to have done the trick so far.
Make sure to disconnect the battery and plugs. And always wear your anti static device.

To be clear, this is much more of an upgrade than a "fix." The goal was to keep my mix-2010 MacBook Pro running smoothly through at least the next two years while I'm still in school. I use a handful of heavy applications, sometimes at the same time, and I had noticed the RAM getting overburdened in ways that it never had before. Instead of buying a new computer, which isn't quite yet justifiable with a 2010, I decided to drop a few hundred dollars and double the RAM (from 2x2gb to 2x4gb) and upgrade the stock 250gb standard HD to a 500gb Solid State Hybrid HD.
While I was at it, I decided to replace the optical drive with a caddy, and put my old 250gb hard drive into that to use as an internal TimeMachine drive.
Changing the hard drive and RAM was super easy and more straightforward than I anticipated.
When removing the stock optical drive, I had some trouble with a stripped screw (which is apparently very common), but that is outside the scope of these products.
The ~$250 I spent on this upgrade is surely worth it, especially considering the cost of a new computer. I expect this new setup to get me through a few more years, after which I'll upgrade my computer.

My battery was dead and my laptop got really slow over the time.
The repair was very easy. I had some trouble with the battery screws, one got mangled and I had to remove it with pliers. All in all it took only about 20 minutes.
Upgrading the hard drive to a fusion drive and adding some extra ram increased general performance up to 50 percent, its like a new laptop and worth the $400. Quality of tools and parts is top, thank you guys!!

I have a Macook Pro Mid 2010 with 250 GB HDD hard disk and 4 GB RAM.
It ran poor and very slow. Startup took almost 2 minutes and the battery only last 3-4 hours. So I ordered 8 GB RAM and a new battery through iFixit, USA. (Recommended by my son)
Same day I ordered from iFixIt, USA I ordered a new Samsung 840 EVO SSD - 1TB (586 USD!) in Denmark.
My iFixit-order was delivered to me via FedEx only in 7 days! That's real quick in this part of the world!
3 days after I could pick up my new SSD at the post office.
My Mac with new 8 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD is now running with high speed (30 second startup!) and fast processing with almost 8 hour battery time!
I used the installation guides for RAM, SSD and battery at iFixit. It took me 6-7 minutes to replace all parts!
Very useful guides with pictures and clips!
Keep up the good work iFixit - I surely will recommend you!
Inside the Mac there's many different screw types! I recommend to buy proper tools!

Original HD going bad. Battery doesn't hold charge long. Memory was at min. i had contemplated on replacing above and due to experience with PC based laptops.
Got the 500g SSD Hybrid, Fast easy install.
Replaced battery and works as original battery.
Memory upgraded to 8gb.
I'm glad the i went ahead and did the replacements of above items. It's well worth the expense and runs as it originally did, fast. Advice, upgrade what you can if you can afford to. Mac products last longer than PC and well worth the expense. Only took me 30-45 min to complete upgrade/replace
