Dyson Ball Animal Emits Unusual Smell or Noise

If your Dyson vacuum is producing whistling noises, it may be the result of air leaking out of the vacuum’s vents. Check for broken seals and incorrectly-fitted parts. Broken seals may need to be replaced.

If the vacuum is making a strange sound, debris may have wrapped around the roller, preventing it from turning properly. This can commonly occur due to hair or other string-like materials wrapping around the roller. If this is the case, unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side on the floor. Take a look at the floor roller at the bottom of the vacuum and use a pair of scissors to carefully cut away any debris wrapped around the floor roller and pull out the debris with your fingers. You may need to manually turn the floor roller to get the debris on the other side. Repeat this process until all of the debris is cleared.

If your vacuum’s belt is misaligned, it may cause unusual sounds and smells like burning rubber due to a build-up of friction and heat. Allow the vacuum to cool for at least an hour. Then, try to use the vacuum as normal.

A clogged filter in a Dyson vacuum can create a muffled sucking sound or a high-pitched squealing during use. Additionally, as the filter fills with dirt and debris over time, all the built-up debris begins to emit a burnt-smelling odor. You may need to remove and clean out the vacuum’s filter. Remove the filter by twisting the purple dial labeled “filter” located at the top of the vacuum. Pull the filter out of the vacuum and rinse it under running water for at least two minutes, or until the water runs clear. While rinsing the filter, gently shake it to remove any built-up debris. Gently wring out the filter to remove excess water. Place the filter in a dry, warm environment and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours, or until the filter is completely dry. Then, place the filter back into the vacuum and try to use it normally.

If you notice a burning smell while operating the Dyson, immediately turn off the Dyson and unplug the electrical cable from the power outlet to prevent a potential fire hazard. Double-check that the power reading on the Dyson matches the power supplied through the power outlet. If the power supplied through the power outlet is higher than the power reading of the Dyson, the burning smell may have been caused by excessive power supplied.
