I am entering my third year as an aerospace engineering undergraduate student at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. I am also pursuing a minor in entrepreneurship and am especially interested in applications of unmanned aerial vehicles, such as precision agriculture and search and rescue. I am from Santa Cruz, California (but, no, I do not surf).
I am a big fan of French pastries (especially the ones filled with chocolate or Nutella) and travelling. I have visited ten countries, including France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland, so I consider myself to be a bit of a chocolate expert.
I also enjoy horseback riding, hiking around beautiful San Luis Obispo, cooking and baking, gardening, building RC planes, and reading (especially historical fiction and science fiction). In the image on the right, you’ll see my twin sister, Miranda, and I in front of the famous Shakespeare & Co. bookstore in Paris, France. My dad was a big Shakespeare fan, so my sister and I are actually named after two characters from The Tempest.
Answer to "Why wont it shift?"Dirty transmission fuel could cause the transmission’s gears or springs in the governor to delay shifts. You mentioned that the transmission fluid appears to be clean, so this may not be the problem. One of the common problems with this transmission is slipping between the 3rd and 4th gears. Overheating can weaken the transmission’s clutch pack disks, causing the ends to shear off and causing a serious problem. This gear slipping usually occurs between 3rd and 4th, but I would assume that it could happen with any of the clutch pack disks.
Answer to "doesn't always catch 3rd when shifting from 2nd to third"Dirty transmission fuel could cause the transmission’s gears or springs in the governor to delay shifts. Most websites recommend just having the transmission serviced regularly. Interesting that your problem is between second and third gears because one of the common problems with this transmission is slipping between the 3rd and 4th gears. Overheating can weaken the transmission’s clutch pack disks, causing the ends to shear off and causing a serious problem.
Answer to "Clicking at front wheel"My 2000 Passat also had clicking issues on the front end, especially when making tight turns. I took it to a repair shop, and they said that it’s the front axles (one on each side of the car), and they needed replacing. Part of the issue is how the ball joints are packed. Before I owned the car, my dad had replaced those axles at least twice, and they would begin clicking again after a few years. I finally had one of the axles break a few months ago, and I was told that the part itself would cost around $600, and labor would be a few hundred on top of that.
