Repair Stories

Jeremy Adams's Story Photo #900128

My Problem

After replacing the DVD drive with a second HDD and the primary HDD with an SSD I thought I was all set for a better computing experience. Unfortunately, after only a couple of weeks the funky hard drive performance I was experiencing before I replaced the HDD with an SSD returned. At the time I tho . . .

My Problem

I tried replacing my hard drive with an SSD and damaged the hard drive cable. I needed to replace the hard drive cable to use an internal drive.

My Fix

The repair was fine following the guide. I had some trouble with stripped screws but that was about it.

My Advice

Take your time and be careful when connecting the ca . . .

My Problem

Bad hard drive or cable - had to replace both

My Fix

Very smooth, thanks to the iFixIt guide.

My Advice

This is a repair that is easy enough to do if you are not afraid to open up your computer. I highly recommend it.

My Problem

My 2009 MBP (2.53 GHz) stopped booting seemingly out of no where -- I took it to an Apple store and they "confirmed" that the HD was busted (totally believable as it's the factory original). I bought a new SSD and that wouldn't boot either. After some testing it turned out that the factory HD was . . .

My Problem

I was hoping to reconnect my hard drive. I had the "flashing file folder with question mark"

My Fix

I enjoyed my first technical repair, however the cable was not enough. My next adventure is to install a new hard drive!

My Advice

I was grateful to your "step by step" visual guide.

My Problem

My mac would get 1/2 way through the startup and crash out. Then start again only to crash out again. Disk utility said everything was a ok.

My Fix

Replaced the hd cable and everything worked great. Took the time to swap out the old 500gb hard drive for a new ssd. Now the computer works about twice as fast. . . .

My Problem

They have a problem with all MBP mid 2009 about the EFI firmware and cable that can do highest speed at 1.5Ghz. So I ordered and change them myslef. Apple doesn't even responsible for this. This probably my last Apple computer, now I use PC and very happy.

My Fix

It's easy. I just watched youtube for that. . . .

My Problem

No communication anymore between the HDD and the Main Board (CPU), while all OK with an external SDD on the external USB socket of the MacBook Pro.

My Fix

Direct & easy internal replacement.

A quarter of an hour operation.

My Advice

Took advantage of the repair to replace the 500GB HDD by a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO.

All we . . .

My Problem

After excitedly replacing my hard drive, I noticed my laptop was not identifying said hard drive! I was terrified the drive was broken or that I accidentally shocked it to death (even though I was clad in ESD safe stuff). Trying not to have a mental breakdown, I examined everything near the hard dri . . .

My Problem

Hard Drive had stopped working and thought I had a virus on Mac...what? Nope, just a worn out Hard Drive cable like so many others

My Fix

The repair went smoothly and quickly thanks to a perfect product and excellent online directions at iFixit. I even added a 2nd Hard Drive while I was under the hood in . . .
