This sounds like a software issue. Can you log onto the computer? Does it boot up? To what screen? What system are you running?

I do not have the right user name and password. When i start up the screen turns blue with the apple in the middle and the gear turning below it the screen then turns to the screen saver with the user name and password in the middle of the screen that you can write in.I tried durning start up holding the option button down when i do that the screen turns blue with a 1 inch locked padlock in the center of the screen with a whitebox below it you can write in.I have tried several different key hold downs during start up,like-(fo) (control option r p)(c)(S)(D)

If you need to get around the firmware password you can change the ram configuration to do that.

MacBook A1181/ 2.4GHzCore 2 Duo prosser. How do you change the configuration of the ram.

Reseting the PRAM is a much easier way to clear out firmware passwords, hold command+option+p+r on the keyboard right after you turn on, and keep holding them until it has chimed 3 times

Here is how to reset the open firmware password. This is an intel mac so not sure if open firmware applies but it's still worth a shot :)

After removing or adding additional RAM turn on the computer and immediately reset the PRAM by holding Command, Option, P, R. Press the keys until you've heard two additional startup chimes. (3 total)

The open firmware password should be disabled. Shut down the computer and return it to it's original RAM configuration.
