Er...i had try what lemerise said, it didn't work.

And i did the repair 2 times, after all repairmen still remain the same. But now go in to a new page that is a "stop sign" instead of the apple logo.

Tried to press the power button and hold down the Option key. its goes into a page with a flashing "earth" logo for 5 seconds then "ox9" logo another 5 seconds, the "stop" sign is at the end.

i have no back up for my laptop, should i do the "Archive & Install"? its the first time of fail to boot it up in 54 months, hopefully it will work again!

The "No" sign means that it cannot startup from the current disk, the filesystem is probably corrupt. your best bet is to reinstall the OS.

Try this:

1- start the PB holding down the 2 keys ->command->s

hold the keys until you seen a black screen with with letters

2- type: fsck -fy (there's a space between k and -

3- wait, the computer will scan the hard drive searching for errors.

4- when you get the text: <<The volume "hard disk name" appears to be OK

5- type: reboot

Redo #2 until you get the text in #4

In case what lemerise said to do will not work, then first try repairing the system or reinstall the system. Insert the System installation disk and start up holding down the "C" key. On the third screen the pull down menu will appear. Go to Utilities and pull down to Disk Utility. Run the repair. If this fails then do the system reinstall and download and install your software updates

I would recommend the "Archive And Install" option if a reinstallation is nessicary, since all data and programs will be preserved in a folder, in the new system.

How do I get the disc drive to pop out if I can't get my powermac G4 to boot up? Only the apple icon stays on grey screen... the keyboard key for opening the disc drive won't open it. Any other trick?
