Clean up from Beer over MBP - not me bought it cheap

hi there

i just bought a MBP 15 which was flooded with Beer. When

I connect the 85W power supply the fans are driving, the

green LED of charging is on and the green small LED in

front of the right side flashes.

The DVD-drive took the recovery disc but after short

starting it stopped fast.

My question is: How can I clean the inside electronics

from beer

Is there anybody out in the croud who can give me

a reliable answer?

Just to make it clear. I guess the motherboard is

smoked out so I ordered a new motherboard in Shengzen for about 500 bucks.

Please let me know your experience in recovering a MBP or equivalent from beer flooding (no joke at all)

have a good time - felix from Switzerland (Europe)

You'll need to disassemble things to get at the mess.

Can you give us the last three digits of your serial number so we have an idea on what model you have? You can also go to this page to review the different models: MacBook Pro Repair and see the basic steps in disassembly.

Generally, with the battery removed you can use a damp cloth with distilled water to blot the PCB where you see spillage (as dried beer is water soluble). Isopropyl alcohol can be used instead, but with sticky spills water cuts through faster. In any case don't get things to wet as you don't want the water to seep in. Using caned air or a hair drier you can dry out the areas you worked at.

The CD/DVD player/burner will most likely need to be replaced if it got hit.

Hope this helps

Hi Dan

Thanks for your support. Here comes the model numbers:

Serial No W803210UAGZ

EMC No 2353

Will follow your instructions and try to clean and fix. One more question: What do you think? If the MBP was running while dropping Beer over it, how did the liquid entered the unibody? First probably through the keyboard wholes then after down. Do you really think that the DVD-drive was affected when the open side is to the right and not really open from top to down?

Is there a chance to bring the DVD-drive to the point that it gives

out the recovery DVD from apple?

In addition to the motherboard (I will get from what are the really electronic critical boards or chips that immediately crash to dead when affected with liquids?

Sorry for the bad questions, I just try to understand what elements are predicted to get dead by the Beer flooding.

Will provide my experience by recovering the MBP back to live.

Thanks for your great work at

If the screen is spilled, it will need to be replaced too. Or damaged more evenly. I actually did that when my laptop screen took damage from rubbing alcahol.

If the HDD is okay, then that is good. HDD prices went up since the floods in Tiawan and all. An SSD in that machine would be really nice.

Good luck.

Always hard to tell how far the beer entered in until you open the system up.

Hold off ordering any parts yet, It's possible you maybe lucky after cleaning things!

Do you have access to another like system? Using care you might be able to use it to test out your discrete major parts.
