While I can make no promises, it should fix the issue. Was the phone dropped, or did this randomly occur? The LCD and glass digitizer are fused together, so when you replace one you will be replacing both. The flex cables that attach the LCD and digitizer to the motherboard are included with every new screen. However, you will need to buy new adhesive for the screen. This is a good example of the tape (however, this is a more expensive five pack). The LCD can be purchased here, as iFixit does not sell parts for this phone. If you follow the instructions on iFixit and take your time, your phone should turn out fine.
It could be many things. Have you had any drops, incidents with water, or anything of the sort? Googling around, the problem seems to be fairly common. I would try to get ASUS to cover it if you can go without the phone for a bit, but if that is out of the question, you can try replacing the LCD module. If you are in the United States, this would be a fine module: http://www.ebay.com/itm/141758646074 The LCD and glass are fused together, but it looks like there are a few different kinds of screens out there. If possible, you should open your phone up and take a picture of the ribbon cables on the inside. I'd also recommend buying some thin double sided tape, as shown in the guide for this device here on iFixit.
Those are almost certainly surface mount capacitors or diodes. As you can see, these can get pretty small. If you did manage to knock them off of the board, you would need professional tools to get them back on.
As this is a repair website, I would advocate repairing it yourself or giving it to a trusted friend. If I had to guess, promoting other businesses to do this work would not follow with this website's way. Todd
Hold the phone with your left hand, making sure your fingers wrap around the chrome bezel but not onto the screen. Put the suction cup on the screw end, and place your thumb at the other end of the screen. Put your index finger in the suction cup ring and pull up. I've never had one that wouldn't come up doing it like that. Now if the screen is cracked...it's a different story. Most people make a duct tape handle to lift the screen up. Apply duct tape to the cracked area at the bottom, and really secure it on there. Make a little handle out of the tape, and lift as said in the other way. Good luck!
So when the phone is off, or the battery is below a certain point, iTunes recognizes it? Make sure you are entering DFU mode, not recovery mode. Here is how to enter DFU mode: 1. Hold down the power and home buttons for ten seconds, or until the phone shuts off. The phone shutting off is what you want to happen. If its already off, turn it on, or begin the boot process. 2. Once it shuts off, let off the power button and hold the home button until iTunes sees it. If you have to do this longer than 60 seconds, then you failed step 1. If you can't get it, repeat until you are in DFU mode.
Bought a front end, and it works. Except for when I unplug it. And the screen is all white. I went to restore, but got errors about the battery being in there half way. So I'll replace that, then restore. Again, the fix was to get the front assembly and replace the battery due to the white screen. Yes, I did try a hard reset. When the phone is unplugged, it instantly dies, so this is the solution.
Does it do this all the time? One thing I've noticed is people who have wet hands, or sweaty hands, have this issue. If the screen is 100% dry, then we move on to the next question. Did you replace the digitizer/lcd, or open up the phone in any way? If so, then we can narrow it down to the digitizer.
Important! Steps 14, 15, and 19 through 28 are totally unnecessary. The SIM card is fine where it is, and the battery does not need to be removed to access everything. I would recommend disconnecting the battery connector while working, however.
Also, be careful with the little antenna where it connects to the dock connector flex. Mine broke off and had to be resoldered, but I bought the part on eBay.
Would the new bigger battery from this SE swap into a 5s? Sounds like an easy way to gain a few miliamps...
Wouldn't work, as quite a few of the parts don't swap. Camera, dock connector, etc.
THOSE CHANGING JUST THE DOCK CONNECTOR!
