Screen turns of when lid is moved

I have an old Mac Book (A1181).

It is turning off the screen when moving the lid. Right now there is only one position where the screen is on, pointing slightly downwards. That is of course very annoying!

The machine is not turning off when the screen goes blank.

Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (what exact machine you have -you referenced 17 machines covering 3 years) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it.

From your description you're getting a short in the cables that run through the clutches (hinges) you may have to replace the cables, or, you might be able to use silicone or some other insulator to repair the cut or nick to the cable that cause this. Another possibility is you might be creating strain on the connector from improper routing (reassembly) if the machine has been worked on by a DIYer.

There are no software fixes for true hardware issues.
