Does your UE Boom 2 speaker not properly pair with your phone, tablet, or other devices via Bluetooth? UE Boom 2 speakers are susceptible to a range of problems that could cause them to fail to connect to other devices using Bluetooth. Failing to connect the speaker to your device with Bluetooth may be another reason the speaker is not producing sound. Check the following possible causes to identify and solve the problem.

If your UE Boom 2 speaker is not producing any sound, see the UE Boom 2 Is Not Producing Sound problem page, instead.

Causes

1

Check to make sure that your Bluetooth pairing is enabled on whatever device you are trying to pair to the speaker. Select the ‘UE Boom’ from the list of devices, and make sure that the UE Boom speaker is ready to be paired with.

2

If your UE Boom is not connecting via Bluetooth, your speaker might not be in pairing mode. Make sure the speaker is in pairing mode by pressing and holding the Bluetooth pairing button on the speaker, which is located above the power button until you hear a sound. The Bluetooth LED light on the speaker should be blinking.

3

Sometimes, distance can cause problems when pairing two devices via Bluetooth. Move the device you are trying to pair closer to the UE Boom speaker and try to connect again.

4

The UE Boom speaker can have a maximum of two devices paired to it at once. The speaker will not allow you to connect a third device or override one device with another. So, make sure all other devices are unconnected before trying to reconnect your desired device.

Additionally, your UE Boom cannot have two identically-named devices connected to it at once. Try renaming your phone while in your Bluetooth settings to make sure that there are not two identically-named devices connected to the speaker.

5

If the Bluetooth software on your device is not updated, you may have trouble connecting to a newer device. Make sure you have the most recent software installed on your UE Boom by connecting the device to your computer with the Micro USB cable and installing the most up to date software patch. In some instances, the device you are trying to connect may have the out of date Bluetooth software, in which case you should make sure that the connected device has the most recent software installed.

6

If you have performed all of the above steps and your speaker will still not pair with your device via Bluetooth, the speaker may require a factory reset. To perform a factory reset, use the following steps:

  1. Turn on your UE Boom.
  2. Hold down the volume down button and the power button at the same time until you hear a sound. Your UE Boom will then turn off.
  3. Turn it back on and try to pair it with your device again.

Note that doing this many times in a row may harm your speaker, so refrain from doing this more than once or twice. You may need to also rename your phone in your Bluetooth settings while your speaker resets. This will prevent the speaker from having two identically-named devices connected to it.
