Amazon Luna Controller Joystick is drifting while not putting in inputs

If the joystick on your Amazon Luna controller is sending outputs despite no user input, follow this troubleshooting guide.

Causes

1

A bad fitting with the base of the joystick and controller housing can cause the joystick to stay off-center causing a drift without the use input.

  • Press firmly down on the affected joystick for 5 to 10 seconds then release and check.

Or

  • Disassemble the controller to get to the front and sand down the back of the front housing where the joystick sits till sticking does not occur.
2

Overtime use can introduce dirt, liquids, or oils that can interfere with joystick function.

  1. Take out batteries
  2. Dissemble the Amazon Luna controller until the joystick module is visible
  3. Gather Cotton swab sticks or a new soft toothbrush, 90%-99% rubbing alcohol, and paper towels.
  4. Put rubbing alcohol on cotton swap or toothbrush; Not On The Controller
  5. Clean the module while being sure not to scrub too hard.
  6. Reassemble
  7. Put in batteries
3

If all previous solutions are not working the controller may have one or more failing Joystick potentiometers which makes fixing almost impossible due to its proprietary nature.
