Identification

An immediate check it to see if the laptop is running ChromeOS, and then to check how much on board storage capacity it has. If the capacity is small you likely have a Chromebook, especially if the manufacture date is recent. Occasionally you will see an older laptop "revived" by installing ChromeOS onto it. The hardware demands for that OS are so much lower, especially for web browsing or using cloud based apps that many otherwise overwhelmed laptops can be used productively. A definitive check is the manufacturer's label frequently found on the underside of the unit. Your model number will allow you to know your machine's setup by checking online.

Background and Identification

The Samsung Chromebook 2 was released in October of 2014. This lightweight laptop has an 11.6-inch HD display, Intel Celeron processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a 16 GB SSD. The Chromebook 2 comes installed with Google Chrome OS, and relies heavily on Google Drive cloud storage.

A frequent complaint about the Samsung Chromebook 2 is that it suffers from slower performance compared to other models due to its processor. Another complaint pertaining to the Chromebook series as a whole, is that it cannot run many popular programs unless they are specifically designed as Chrome applications.

You can identify a Samsung Chromebook 2 by looking at the sticker on the bottom of the laptop. The sticker will have a model code. The model code for this model is XE500C12-K01US.
