you can buy just a screen - but it can't be just any old one. If you can connect to an external monitor try this if you can't ID your Mac, use the guide to remove the back of the display and look at the lower left you should see a number that what you need to find a replacement part.

My wife has the exact same model. She broke it and after doing some digging I found the site linked below. Purchased it from them and received it within 2 days.
When I got it in the mail it was B133EW07 V.2. I think it's suppose to be one of the better screens. Popped it in and it was working beautifully. Great Screen. Bright colors.
