Brand new Note 4 is a brick

I have a brand new Note 4, I turned it on once and it was downloading forever and I pulled the battery. Now it is totally dead, no response when I hold the power button and the light doesn’t come on when I plug in the charger. How can I get it to work? Did I fatally wound it when I pulled the battery during the download (the little green Samsung guy was on the screen but no indication of what it was downloading and my previous Note 4 didn’t do any kind of download). Please help, I need to get this phone working since my old one is not working right (problems with the touchscreen not being responsive among other issues). Or have I turned it into an expensive paperweight?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

If it's brand new it's probably in warranty.

Can you just replace it?

(they don't need to know you pulled anything ;) )

Agreed with med_tech it should be under warranty if it's brand new.

Hi,

This does sound like quite the problem. Couple of things.

The Samsung Note 4 is 5 years old now, so it is not being supported officially by either Samsung or Google.

When the “Downloading” screen comes on, it means that it’s looking for the Android OS. It could be that the previous person reset it incorrectly, hence when it was turned on for the first time, after the reset, the system became stuck in a loop. The little tip off, is when you see the little Droid robot on it’s back, with the chest opened and a red symbol hovering over it.

You can try to download the original ROM and install it on the phone, but it can be challenging if you’ve never done it and you need a computer. If you need help with this and want to try it, I can assist you.

My best recommendation, and I know you won’t like it: Get another phone. And try to get a newer device. Lowest model I’d go if you really want one from the Note series, get a Note 5. If this is not a deal breaker, then you have an open field of devices.

Hope it goes well.

I don't know how I could download anything if the phone won't even turn on. It was new, so no one else had done anything to it. The reason that I liked the Note 4 is that it has the removeable battery..that has come in quite handy more than once. There had been another new one from the same seller available, but someone else got it before I could. I could always send it to Samsung to see if they can fix it.
