Hi, I was told by a display vendor that Apple has a barcode on the very edge of the display that has a unique identifier like a bar code to identify that display with that phone to prevent any non OEM parts
Is this true

I believe so. You lose TrueTone when you replace the screen unless you copy that serial number over to a the new display with a special tool. In the case of the XR and above, if you replace the battery or display, the device will pop up with a message saying, “Apple is unable to verify this is a Genuine display.” Even if you buy a brand new iPhone from an apple store and transfer it, it will still display this message on the lock screen for a few days and then it will show up in the settings.
This is nothing to be afraid of. It’s like using third party ink in your printer. Apple does this because according to some of their engineers, they have issues where people will come into the store, buy a new iPhone, strip it for parts and replace them with cheap aftermarket ones, return it, and sell the OEM parts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMt_kcQY...

Yep. Apple can identify every part electronically smart enough to have a chip on it and any part big enough to print a barcode on it.
Warranty fraud to get new phones/swap new parts is rampant in China. They basically check every repair case electronically and physically inspect all suspicious cases, or random inspection to find potential frauds.
Not sure if the inspections are performed elsewhere, but surely in China.
