Compatibility of 12" and 15" batteries/charging

I need a way to charge my G4 12" PowerBook batteries, at least for data recovery and diagnostics. The 6-contact connectors look the same for the 15" and the 12". If I connect a 12" battery contact-by-contact to the 15" battery socket, is it most likely to charge successfully, do nothing, or explode?!

I have no further information on this question, alas! But since I have borrowed a 12" G4 and have successfully recovered the essential data, my question is now only of "academic" interest.

Why don't you run the comuter just with the power adapter and without the battery?

Remacberlin, The power from the working power adapter neither charges batteries nor powers the laptop.

You should consider buying the TruePower universal battery charger made by Fastmac. I have one to charge my spare batteries and it's working very well. Here's the web link:

I don't believe this will work, but to be sure please list the part numbers from both batteries as well as exactly which two machines you have.

Thanks, Mayer. The target machine is EMC 2030 with battery 825-6431-A. I had wanted to charge it with my A1001. The battery in the latter is a replacement one with part number CB10778A.

The 12" machine is a :

Apple PowerBook G4 1.5 12" (Al) Specs

Identifiers: 12-Inch - 1.5 GHz - M9690LL/A* - PowerBook6,8 - A1104 - 2030

I don't know what the 15" machine is. The replacement part number netted nothing on a web search.
