Exchanging harddrive between two MB Core2 Duo fails

I have 2 A1181. I wanted to easily switch all data from one to the other by just exchanging the hd. The one hd had 3 or 4 (dont remember) extra pins on a socket on one side. On the other hd there wasnt a socket connected to the board on that place. When i installed the hd the macbook started again and again without coming to the apple logo.

SMC-Reset didnt work.

Any suggestions?

The extra pins are most likely ID jumpers or designate SATA II. They should not have any jumpers on them. I'd put them back the way they worked and do this in "Target Mode". Connect the two units via a firewire cable and start one up holding down the "T" key. This will bring its hard drive icon up on the desktop of the other machine. Then just drag and drop what you want to move.
