Have you hooked up an external monitor to see if that is a normal display? I'd proceed to make sure that all your cables to the LCD are connected and that you do not have a loose connection anywhere on the inside going to your screen. Blow out your fan with compressed air every month or so. Check out your fan and everything on your motherboard and I would not be surprised if you will find a lot of debris. I remember a discussion about the Dell overheating and actually damaging the video chip. So I lean toward suspecting your NVIDIA chip, if only because they are known to be flawed in the D600 series. Of course it could be your LCD and you will have a good external display when connected so go give it a shot and see what it does. You Dell 620 has the Nvidia GPU. This is a well know problem. Contact Dell for a free repair. If they balk go to http://www.nvidiasettlement.com/affected... to join the class action suit against them. Apple, has so far as I know, repaired all the MacBook Pros with this issue for free.
