No response from the power button at all

I have this MBP 15" mid 2010 laptop. When connecting power, the light on the magsafe is green, even though it's been in a drawer for a year. Pressing the power button get no reaction at all. Not even the sleep light. I yanked the battery and tried without, and with a known good (and charged) battery, same result. I'm assuming it's a bad system board. Is there anything else it could be?

Reset the SMC

Unplug the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter from your computer.

Using the built-in keyboard, press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. Hold these keys and the power button for 10 seconds.

I tried all of the key combos to no avail. It is unusual to see a machine go completely dead like this.
