Make Tray Loading Optical Drive External

I have iMac G4 that died. I got the answer for using the hard drive as an external device on another computer. I am wondering, can I do the same thing with the optical drive. I have a video camera that makes the small DVD's - I need a tray loading optical drive to use them. All the new Macs have slot loading optical drives. I expect there is no package solution, but I would be happy with a Jerry-rigged one. I can scavenge parts from the iMac if necessary

You need an external Optical drive enclosure. I would go with a combp USB/Firewire one so that you can boot from it with firewire. Here's some examples: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-driv...
