Thank You VERY MUCH, Mr @mayer. I am an android phone enthusiast, got my Nexus's (yes, plural) of course, but my Mother passed away close to 4 months ago and left me her HARDLY EVER used Macbook pro. Well i searched high and low to find moms install disks, etc... then everywhere i turned to research the answer I was treated like a thief or asking for a password hack!!!!! CRAP HAPPENS, I know thefts are a gigantic problem,BUT THERE ARE SOME HONEST MISTAKES AND THINGS HAPPEN. As an Android Enthusist, I reached out to my XDA DEVELOPER bretheren and it was then ,the first time thgat I was ashamed to be affilliated with XDA. My "GoTo" source for all my problems, THAT NEVER FAILED TO HAVE THE RIGHT ANSWER, but i ask about this problem with my deceased mothers practually brand new MacBook Pro and Im harangued and almost lynched by the very same devs I learned from and respect.

Mike, just get a Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and boot up from it by holding down the C key. Go to the second page pull down menu to Change password and do it.
