MBP A1286 power problems with battery only

Laptop does not seem to be able to operate without the charger for more than 15 minutes, when you try to restart it after that it dies at the apple logo until you plug it in again. I know this is not a battery problem because it does this with other batteries also.

This, above, is what I have been told is happening.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I don't have the laptop with me, so I wish I could be more descriptive and I have to suggest diagnostics that need to be done. (which would be a lot easier if i had the laptop)

This laptop was "repaired" by a third party, the person that has it, which included fixing the adhesive coming loose from the display casing and the glass cover was replaced. I also suspect the hinges were striated out since they were a bit off.

I am not sure of the repairs that were done, since i did not do them, might be responsible for this? (it didn't do this when i had it just last week)

Another headache for me and hopefully the usual good advice I get here will provide some insight to help resolve this problem via phone, or explain why it may have happened based on my description. (laptop was shipped well packaged)

please excuse punctuation and fractured question structure, due to lack of sleep and attempt to ask this question quickly so this macbook hopefully is one less thing on my mind tomorrow.

Not enough information for a diagnosis. Despite what you've seen, download and run Coconut battery and see if we can get more information: http://www.coconut-flavour.com/

If it's dying while on battery and not while the MagSafe is plugged in, we have to look deeper into the battery and battery connector.

it seems the battery has completely failed. Thank you for your quick answer.........I will make use of the coconut program in the future, very helpful.
