How to recover data from iPhone that wont switch on

I dropped my iphone 5 and it now wont turn on at all. I have tried connecting it to my laptop but it is not recognised. The phone is completely dead! Is there any way to retrieve the data (photos and videos is what i am really after) at all??

It is not possible without repairing it to turn it on first. Unless maybe you check your iCloud backup to see if the data is already backed up.

Do you remember? which device is used to save iPhone data for you, internal memory or SD card ? if it is one of them , you can open it and scan , if all not , the problem is very difficult, unless you have created a iTunes /iCloud backup ,

Considered that your phone can't be recognized by the laptop after dropped, you might need to get it repaired first. This problem might cause by the internal damaged, loosen battery interface, etc. But I would suggest you connect your phone to iTunes to see if iTunes can give you some error code to find out the issue. As for recover data from dead iPhone, try checking both in iCloud and iTunes to see if you have created a backup before.
