How do I install OS X on newly installed hard drive

Ok. I purchased the iFixit 1TB hybrid hard drive for my MacBook Pro. I was unable to clone my old hard drive (it is still functional) but I created an OS installer on a USB flash. Now I have now physically installed the new hard drive in my laptop. When I start up my computer without my flash USB it gives me a flashing folder with a question mark instead of the apple symbol. How do I install the OS on the new hard drive?

You will need to format the drive GUID and the Mac OS X extended before you try to install a system. Use Disk Utilities to do this either from the original system DVD or a net install.

Restart your Mac while holding down the Option key. This will start the OS X Startup Manager in which you can select the installer drive and boot from that.
