Hard drive or fan issue?

Recently my Powerbook started to make a high speed noise as if the hard drive is just spinning. The color wheel comes up and everything is frozen, my only alternative is to force shut down. It will come back up fine but will last about 15 minutes and the same thing happens. Is it the hard drive or a fan?

Options

First get your data backed up. Start up from your system installation disk and see if the problem persists. This is most likely a failing hard drive.
