iMac Intel 24" (1st gen silver case) LCD Screen Replacement?

Hello,

I have been told that my LCD display on my iMac needs to be replaced. the bottom part of the screen is very dim. The quotes I have received are $700. Of course, therefore does not make sense to repair... Any suggestions on obtaining a relatively cheap replacement screen? Thanks!

Is this a half screen issue? Very dark at the bottom and gradually getting lighter till it gets to the center? Please tell us what the diagnosis was and who gave it to you. This is the very issue that first brought me to this site and my first question so I am intensely interested in helping solve this issue.

Hi Mayer,

Yes, EXACTLY what you describe is the problem. I have called two Apple repair centers and they have both told me that the screen needs to be replaced, and both indicated it was bulbs that have failed that backlight the screen. Any suggestions how you solved your problem would be appreciated. Thanks!

Has anyone considered the following

make up some cables to allow the inverters to be swapped while insitu and powering up. That should at least tell you if it is inverter or CCLF failure

I have mine open ATT so I'll see if I can ID and source connectors to suit

FWIW I have a "dead" imac here and have ordered a new VGA if that does not fix it I'll have a go at opening up the LCD and getting at the CCFL tubes

I had to replace the one I got it last week. The LCD was $400. Here's where I got it: Here's the link to the 661-4431 LCD screen for your iMac:

See this answer: Why does my screen have ~3/4" brownish shading on both sides?

in the link you mention tearing down the old screen. Did you have any success?

It's scheduled for Monday but I may try to get to it sooner.

Cool will be interesting to see what you find.

This may be of use when you pull the old screen apart - CCFL replacement
