time clock internal battery

Every time I unplug even for a short period I always have to reset the time clock. Is this an internal battery (if it has one) that I can replace or a power supply that needs replacing?

Options

This problem should be resolved by replacing the PRAM battery. It stores the Data and time information. Here's the guide for the 17" model which should work fine for you, the battery can be seen in step 18: iMac Intel 17" Logic Board Replacement
