Does a reliable GPU diagnostic test exist for the well known defect?

I'm a repair tech and I encounter many problems with Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" laptops. I'm aware of the defect with the graphics processors for this release (TS4088), but I don't have a way to determine if a laptop is having the issue for sure.

I can't seem to reproduce a kernel crash reliably and Apple Service Diagnostic won't even catch the problem. I've also tried third party GPU diagnostic software, but still no luck.

I've read that Apple developed a custom diagnostic called Video System Test to test for this issue but can't seem to find it anywhere. Has anyone figured out a method of reliably testing for the graphics processor failure in this model?

Sadly, there is no tool available to the general public.

Apple has a bunch of internal tools some are available to authorized service techs, some not ;-{

If you are a certified tech talk to your local Apple rep. for access.

You're calling it a graphics chip defect when it is a RAM power supply defect. Try to avoid talking to Apple certified people as even the people who recalled this don't even know what is wrong with the board.
