Cannot access single user mode to reset password

My partner has a Macbook Unibody 2010-2011 model with OS X snow leopard.

Her password of 4 years suddenly stopped working and now cannot log into computer.

Tried to enter single user mode to change password but none of the key board short cuts work at all. I have had a technician use another key board but still could not access single user mode (key board shortcuts not working)

Hoping someone can recognize these symptoms and offer a solution?

Options

Try the second method Any USB keyboard should work, doesn't have to be Apple.

Hope you have web & email account password as Keychain will be broken (can't access "remembered" or "stored account passwords"
