It's one of two things either the charging port and it powers the home button or the home flex itself ..

Simple way to check is to remove bottom screws and open the phone now don't turn phone off just tilt the screen up until you see the two gold prongs on the charging port now as I said the phone needs to be powered on..

With a screw driver touch the two gold contacts if the screen lights up then it's the home button flex that's faulty if it doesn't light up the charging port is faulty..

I've tried 2 charging ports and the home button still does not work.

I get no response when I link the two gold prongs.

a couple people on here lately with same problem---one guy solved when he realized he wasn't shorting the gold pins correctly. So, just to be clear---you need to open an app (because the home button has no function on the home screen) and then use a metal pin to bridge across the two gold prongs. If you don't see home button function, then you are troubleshooting a board problem.

It is uncommon, but possible, to lose the home button via a cold solder joint at R20/R22, or if you have damaged the U3 component only on one side. This seems unlikely for you, but it is possible.
