Freezes during boot from HDD and DVD

Hello,

my PowerBook G4 1.67 GHz with 2 GB RAM freezed during the boot process after I foreced shoted down by pressed the powerbotten. It always stops at the white screen with the Apple logo and the spinner. The same thing happened while I trying to boot from the Install Disc. The Hardware Test also can´t work.

When I connet it to a mac mini under firewire connection. HD can be detected but hard to read.

I need to replace HD first?? or some serius problem happen?

Does anyone have useful clues?

Best regards

Sounds like a failing hard drive if it's hard to access in target mode. From target mode, back up your user data. Run Disk Utilities and if you can't repair it, reformat and reinstall the system from the Mac Mini if it is not a Intel processor machine. That failing, replace the hard drive. Try reseating the RAM, and also try to see if you can verify/repair the drive in any way.
