battery connector ok, battery ok Works only on charger

Hello , i am searching for troubleshooting for this problem but no answer yet.

I have an iphone 4s which works only on charger. When i put a battery after many hours it boots for 4-5 sec and then it shows the low battery icon.

i ve checked the battery (tried and second one). Works fine.

the battery connector is ok . i am testing with a multimeter and there isnt a broken connection.

Is there a possibility that this could be an ic or cap or something similar on the board ? a power ic for example.

Thank you in advance.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Give us more details of your testing that you believe ruled out faulty battery and faulty battery connector on board.

Are you saying that with a battery that is fully charged by another device will not allow this device to boot?---you are sure this isn't just a charging system problem (which is often board-related).

What troubleshooting of the battery connector have you done?

i take the mainboard and put it on an iphone 4s that works perfect and the problem is still there. when i disconnect the cable it scwitches of . So i guess its mainboard issue.

"the battery connector is ok . i am testing with a multimeter and there isnt a broken connection."

what did you specficially test?

I would highly suspect the battery connector has a cold solder joint/lifted connection---I would replace battery connector and see if it solves.

i use this diagramm for the test .

http://de.tinypic.com/r/dq3zwk/8

and i am not so sure about the connector because seldom when the mainboard is left off the phone for sometime i suppose, i press the power buttton (only on battery without charger) and i boots , i see the apple logo and after 5 seconds it turns off and shows me to that the battery is totaly empty and i have to connect it with the charger. and this period of 5 seconds is always the same !

so you are sure you have continuity between each battery connector pin and each test point the diagram?

You are sure that the two tiny resistors on the diagram have continuity across them, and that no component is missing?

by

100% i am not sure. i am messuring with the multimeter for some seconds and it seems fine. is there a better way to check. the caps are there and look in good condition

the repair at the left i tried this today so imagine that this wasnt there. i thought maybe its a bad connection but the problem is still there.

Any suggestions ?

You need to make sure those pins aren't shorted together. Do you have continuity through the two resistors at bottom, and not through the two caps? Are you sure there is no short across pos/neg connector pins?

by

Can you give some more Infos how to do that because maybe i am doing something wrong. As i told you i am using the multimeter and the :Beep: mode and try to see if there is the connection that the diagram shows. and it beeps everywhere.

Sorry for being a bit foggy, A customer gave his phone and a battery he got on eBay.....

his replacement battery was from parts unknown ( bad copy? ) it looked fine and metered out but would not hold a charge, I replaced it with a battery from you ( ifixit ) and it worked fine....

I don't Know if this is a similar issue...... just thought may be the battery.....

OP has tried three different batteries. Not sure about this battery incompatibility stuff---I switch batteries from phones all the time and have yet to see this problem you're talking about---what is the specific model number of the phone that was not able to use a standard battery?
