Will not boot into Operating System.

I tried to upgrade from OS X 4 to 5, but now I only get a message requesting that I restart the computer. I have tried booting from both installation CD and an external drive with an OS in it, and it still won't boot into the startup disk. What can I do?

Tell us about the upgrade disk you are trying to use.

How long are you waiting?

After some upgrades there's a time lag at boot or reboot. There's lots of background stuff going on - give it 10 minutes.

You may have already kluged it - but give it a shot.

Have you done a single user forced repair? If waiting ten minutes doesn't finish the install then do a command-s boot run- fsck -fy until you do not get a "file system modified" message then reboot and wait.

Good Luck,

N
