Will not boot into Operating System.

I tried to upgrade from OS X 4 to 5, but now I only get a message requesting that I restart the computer. I have tried booting from both installation CD and an external drive with an OS in it, and it still won't boot into the startup disk. What can I do?

Tell us about the upgrade disk you are trying to use.

How long are you waiting?

After some upgrades there's a time lag at boot or reboot. There's lots of background stuff going on - give it 10 minutes.

You may have already kluged it - but give it a shot.

Have you done a single user forced repair? If waiting ten minutes doesn't finish the install then do a command-s boot run- fsck -fy until you do not get a "file system modified" message then reboot and wait.

Good Luck,

What os is on the external drive? how did you try to start from the drive?

what color do the upgrade disks have?

since the snow leopard upgrade dvd costs almost nothing (29$) - i would not try anything else on an intel mac
