What is a accelerator card?

I just purchased a G4 Mac iBook and want to create audio tracks with a M-Audio Fast Track Pro audio interface. I'm told that this audio interface does not support G3 or G4 accelerator cards. What is an accelerator card?

With my current card is it possible to use this audio interface? If not are there any other audio interface units that is supported by G3 or G4 accelerator cards? Also is it possible to upgrade the card?

Thanks,

Thomas

Accelerator cards are usually processor upgrade cards. I am not aware of any upgrade cards for your unit. These cards are usually for the desktop models.

The last ones I recall for laptops were the G4 daughtercards for the Pismo. Ralph +

I just looked up the recording interface that you mentioned- based on the fact that it's minimum OS is 10.3, I imagine it should work with the iBook G4.

I think what they mean by an accelerator card is the kind of card that some people put in old PowerMac G3s and G4s. I think M-Audio is saying that the interface will not work with souped up machines that are still old. The iBook G4 is a great machine- I'm typing from one right now. :)
