transferring a hard drive from my old laptop to a new model

So, since I may have a limited time left with my unibody MacBook since I dumped coffee on it, I was wondering...If i end up buying a new MacBook Pro...one with a 160G hard drive...can I take the 250G hard drive out of my MacBook and transfer it to the new computer? Thing is, I NEED the 250 gigs of space. But I really don't feel like spending an extra $300 for the 250 gig model when I already HAVE that hard drive. I'm not sure I understand WHY Apple is charging $1400 for a 250gig 13" MacBook Pro when the $1100 unibody MacBook came with a 250 gig hard drive. Anyway, just wondering if it could work?

Yes your 250 GB should work as they are both SATA drives. Ralph

So it would be just a matter of swapping the HD in the new computer with this one? Then it should boot right up? Or is there something else I'm going to need to do?

Installing in the new drive should be similar--just go slow and be careful. Good luck. Ralph

Thanks. Hardware swap I assume is that straight forward. As for software and or OS...is there anything to be done? Or does it just start right up as if it were in the old computer? Basically being just like my old MacBook, but now with a fancy SD slot and a bit nicer graphics chip? hahaha

I would think it would just boot up. Ralph

Yes just swap the 250gb to your new Mac and it will work without problem. You may use the new Mac installation disk to do an "archive and install" on the drive so you'll be sure that the system configuration will be updated for the new machine.
