The battery icon shows an X at all times. I installed a brand new battery and the problem still persists. I tested the new battery on another MacBook and it shows a full charge and works just fine. The light on the power adapter turns from green to red as soon as the battery is installed but still only ever shows an x for the icon. I also tried the smc reset - no luck. Any ideas??

contacts between battery connector board and logic board... Remove the battery connector board, clean the pins on the connector and contacts on the board with dielectric cleaner and a small stiff brush. 99% iso alcohol after will speed drying. Wait 72 hrs to reassemble after cleaning unless you speed the process with a desiccant. If this fails you may need a new logic board.

Can you give a link to this "known issue"?
Sorry tried posting links but they wouldn't show if you search "battery connector logic board problem MacBook" you'll see many new or still under warranty complaints of books not running unplugged.
The "solutions" often had replaced logic boards can't find the original non-omw solution just now, but it was as I described it.
I have the same computer with the same problem, I wonder if the is a problem with this design or something.

- For future reference you posted a comment in the place where only Answers belong. Please use the Add Comment link. FWIW I suspect more "bad components" than poor design. When you make millions of parts it's likely that poor Quality Control will let some get out in the wild. This has happened to Apple before, and it also happens with manufacturers of other devices (not just Apple).
