How to repair data display cable/connection after a spilled drink?

A few weeks ago a red flash got spilled on my macbook pro. (thank goodness the laptop was closed) I dried and cleaned everything as best as I could. Now when the laptop is open the screen flashes once and then goes black. Once I opened it and it had a perfect screen for a split second and then went black. I opened the lap top up and cleaned as much of the red flash off of everything under the back cover. Nothing changed. Though I did notice that everything was working on the laptop except the screen. I plugged an HDMI cable into the laptop and my screen appeared. I could use the keyboard and the mouse pad just fine. I could also use the HDMI plug, usb plugs, sd card plug with proper operation. (which are all on the same side) I researched that the data display cable is what controls the screen image. This cable also connects on the corner that received the most liquid. Is there a way to clean this cable and the connection to let it get proper connection? Is it possible to replace this cable or the connection? How much am I looking at in repairs?

Cleaning would be the first logical thing to try. It's free. Using the tags on the right there's much advice about identifying and cleaning corrosion and liquid damage (there might be more than you suppose) from a variety of drinks.

I would not completely button down the top case/lid until I knew that cleaning had worked. If cleaning doesn't work you can order a new cable and see if that fixes things. If the new cable doesn't set things right you probably have logic board damage. In the worse case scenario only you can determine if you wish to replace the logic board, or part out the machine.

Just what cable would that be and how is it installed?

Since the machine works with an external monitor, I would guess the logic board is good. I'm going to use a commercial cleaner called Big Bath, pull all the connectors and thoroughly clean them. There is a I/O internal cable that's replaceable, but I doubt that it's an issue. I looked at the tear down of the screen that the iFixit team did and step #16 pretty well rules out repairing it. All else failing we can order in a screen from China as they are a third cheaper than any I've seen in the States. Will keep you updated on my progress.
