Logic board upgrade for performance boost. Possible?

iMac Intel 20" 252522 EMC 2105 and 2118

I have 20" Intel Imac 2.0GHz Core Duo (early 2006 iMac 4,1) and would love to make it last as long as I can by installing the logic board from a iMac 5,1 core2 duo imac. I know that this is major work, but I was wondering if this is physically possible. Has anybody done this, or are there physical reasons that would prevent me from doing this upgrade? Thoughts are appreciated

Upgrade the CPU to a T 7400 2.16 Core 2 Duo or a T7600 2.4 Core 2 Duo. You don't need to replace the logic board, just the processor. Do a lot of reading before trying to take an upgraded machine to Lion. It runs very well with 10.6.8

OS Lion is available for download

Glad to see you back!! Hope the surgery went well.

Due for more surgery next month. I'm not back and probably won't be except to answer one or two questions occasionally. The iFixit staff gives me full retail pricing on parts, less 5%. All other suppliers I've contacted give a price break for resellers and professional repairmen. I've helped build this site for two and half years and I take this pricing as an extreme insult. Sorry, but I need to eat too.
