Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen Screen Ghosting

If a static image remains on the screen for an extended period, ghosting may become more visible. To minimize this:

• Regularly turn pages instead of leaving a single image displayed.

• Avoid high-contrast content, as dark elements tend to leave more noticeable traces.

E-Ink displays refresh more slowly than traditional LCD or OLED screens, sometimes leaving behind ghosting effects. To reduce ghosting:

• Enable Full-Page Refresh: Navigate to Settings > Home, Library and Notebooks > Book and notebook options > Page Refresh.

• On older software versions: Navigate to Settings > Reading Options > Page Refresh to force a full-screen refresh on every page turn. -

• Manually refresh the screen by adjusting brightness settings up and down or restarting the Kindle.

High temperatures can slow down the refresh rate, making ghosting more persistent. If your Kindle feels warm:

• Allow it to cool down in a shaded area.

• Avoid using it in direct sunlight or placing it near heat sources for long periods.

Sometimes, software glitches prevent proper screen refreshing. To fix this:

• Check for updates: Settings > Device Options > Software Updates and install any available updates.

• Restart the Kindle by holding the power button for 40 seconds to force a system reset.

Unlike OLED screens, Kindle E-Ink displays do not suffer from permanent burn-in. However, severe ghosting that doesn’t disappear after multiple refreshes may indicate a defective screen.
