Geardup RC Ford Mustang GT Troubleshooting

The GEAR’D UP RC Ford Mustang Gt. was released by GEAR’D UP in 2014. This particular model is red, with white flames on the hood and sides of the car. Soldering is required for replacing the inner electronic components, making repair moderately difficult.

Car Won’t Turn On ¶ 

The power switch is flipped to the “on” position, and the car will not work.

Power Button is “Off” or Only Partially “On” ¶ 

Before removing any car parts, check the bottom of the car to confirm the power switch is fully in the “on” position. If it is only partially in the “on” position, the car may behave as though the switch is in the “off” position and will not function.

Dead/Defective Batteries ¶ 

With use and time, the car’s batteries may deteriorate. If they do not have enough charge or are damaged, they may not adequately power the car’s circuitry. If this is the case, the car battery will need to be replaced.

Remote Doesn’t Work ¶ 

The car is powered on, but it will not react to the remote control.

Dead/Defective Battery ¶ 

Over time, the 9V battery may lose charge or die. If it does not have enough charge, it may not be able to power the remote circuitry. If this is the case, the remote battery will need to be replaced.

Broken/Disconnected Wires ¶ 

If the remote is handled too roughly, the wires may detach from the remote circuit board or other connection points. If there are unattached wires, you will have to replace or resolder the circuit board

Broken shell ¶ 

The cars plastic outer shell is cracked or shattered.

Collision/Drop ¶ 

In the event of an unexpected high-speed collision, the shell may crack or break. As a result, you may need to replace the shell.

Wheels Won't Turn ¶ 

The car and remote are both working and turned on, but the wheels refuse to turn.

Inadequate Wheel Well Clearance ¶ 

If there isn’t enough clearance between the wheels and wheel wells of the car, the shell may not be properly aligned, and the wheels may be getting caught on the shell. To increase the clearance, please realign the shell according to this guide.

Defective Transmitter ¶ 

If there is an issue with the transmitter in the remote or the receiver in the car, the two will not be able to communicate with one another. To determine if the receiver in the car is malfunctioning, a separate working 27MHz remote can be used in place of the one that comes with the RC Mustang GT. If there is a response from the car (any response should be sufficient), then the transmitter in the Mustang GT’s remote may be at fault and will need to be replaced. To fix this, you may need to replace the Circuit Board.

Broken Receiver/Motor ¶ 

If the Mustang GT still does not respond to a separate 27MHz remote, then the problem lies either with the car’s receiver or its motors. Unfortunately the car’s circuit board is attached to the motors, so to replace the board, you will have to solder. You can use this soldering guide to replace the circuit board or replace the motors

Car Won’t Turn or Accelerate Effectively ¶ 

The acceleration or turning capabilities of the car are subpar.

Damaged Batteries ¶ 

Even if the car turns on, lower charged or damaged batteries may not allow the motors to accelerate as much as they should, which would affect both its speed and turning capabilities. If this is a problem, you may want to try replacing the batteries.

Inadequate Tire Tread ¶ 

Cars run due to the friction between their tires and the ground. If the tires are worn down, the car will not be able to grip the ground as well. Check for visible tire treads. If there are none, you may want to replace the wheels.

Faulty Motor ¶ 

If you are interested, before beginning this procedure, you can determine which motor is defective by powering on your Mustang GT and attempting to move or turn. Defective motors will not turn the wheels that they are attached to. If both wheels do not move, then there is the possibility that both motors are broken. In this case, both motors will need to be replaced.

Another possibility is that the circuit board is not functioning, in which case it will need to be replaced. The circuit board can only be the issue if neither motor is working.
