Acer ZG5 Netbook Will Not Turn On ¶
Your netbook will not boot.
Power Adapter Issues ¶
Make sure that the power adapter is plugged into both the wall and the netbook and that the indicator light on the left side of the laptop below the display is on.
If that doesn't work, you might have a bad power adapter. A bad power adapter will allow the netbook to deplete its battery life without the ability to re-charge. Without power the netbook will not boot.
RAM Issues ¶
You might have a faulty RAM that won't allow the netbook to boot.
First, access the RAM slots and ensure you have RAM installed.
Re-seat the RAM in the netbook. You can do this by removing the RAM and then putting it back in.
If this does not solve the problem, then replace the RAM.
Motherboard Issues ¶
If all else fails, replace the motherboard.
Acer ZG5 Netbook Will Not charge ¶
The charging indicator light does not turn on when the power adapter is plugged in.
Fully Charged ¶
Check the battery.
If the battery is fully charge, it will not continue to charge, and the light indicator will not be on.
If the netbook can turn on without the power adapter being plugged in, then the battery is fully charged.
Power Adapter ¶
A bad power adapter will not charge the battery and the charing light indicator will not be on.
If the battery is dead and will not charge, then you might have a bad power adapter. Try replacing the power adapter.
Power Board Issues ¶
If all fails, then you might have a bad power board. Try replacing the logic board. See motherboard replacement guide.
No Wi-Fi Connection ¶
The netbook cannot detect any wireless networks.
Wi-Fi Switch ¶
Make sure that the Wi-Fi switch is set to the on position to allow your netbook to detect wireless connections.
Wireless Network ¶
Make sure there is a wireless network around for the netbook to detect.
Try moving to a spot where you know for certain that the wireless network provides a strong connection.
Wireless Card Issues ¶
You might have a faulty wireless card that won't allow the netbook to detect wireless connections.
First, access the wireless card and ensure you have wireless card installed.
Re-seat the wireless card in the netbook. You can do this by removing the wireless card and then putting it back in.
If this does not solve the problem, then replace the wireless card.
Antenna Issues ¶
You might have faulty antennas that won't allow the netbook to detect wireless connections.
The antennas in this netbook are located in the display. Try [invalid guide link].
Acer ZG5 Netbook Shuts Down Randomly ¶
Turn off the netbook and turn it back on. If the problem still reoccurs continue below.
Battery Issues ¶
A low battery charge or a bad battery will cause the netbook to randomly shut down.
Ensure that the battery is connected to the netbook or that the power adaptor cord is plugged in to both the wall and the netbook.
Ensure that the battery is charged. The indicator light above the left side of the keyboard will glow orange if the battery is low.
If the battery is dead, charge the battery for an hour with the netbook off and then try turning it on again.
If the netbook continues to randomly shut down, replace the battery.
Ventilation Issues ¶
If the fan is not on, the netbook will overheat. To prevent overheating, the netbook will automatically shut down.
Make sure that the fan is on and that the ventilation ports located on the front bottom of the netbook are not blocked.
If necessary, replace the fan.
Display Will Not Turn On ¶
The display remains black and unpowered.
Netbook Power ¶
Ensure that the netbook is turned on.
You can do this by checking netbook to see if the power light is on.
Display Issues ¶
Adjust the brightness settings.
If the brightness level is at its lowest, it might seem like the display is off.
Push Fn+left arrow keys and try toggling the display with the Fn+F6 key.
If this fails, try [invalid guide link].
Graphics Card Issues ¶
If replacing the display does not solve the problem, the graphics card may be nonfunctional.
Since the graphics card is attached to the motherboard, try replacing the motherboard.
Acer ZG5 Netbook Slows Down Unexpectantly ¶
There isn't much running, and the netbook is still running slow
Sound Issues ¶
There is a known hardware problem with this netbook where if the speakers are too loud then they vibrate slowing down and eventually causing damage to the hard drive.
Make sure that the speakers are turned down to below 80% and that they aren't causing the netbook to noticeably shake.
Screen is Unresponsive ¶
The monitor on your Acer Aspire ZG5 is black and you know your device is on.
Monitor Not Responding ¶
First make sure that your device is turned on. If the screen is still black, your display may be on the wrong monitor. To switch your monitor display back, simply hold the fn key while pressing f6 to switch it back.
If the screen is still black, then simply disconnect all cables from the Acer Aspire One ZG5, and the monitor will reset.
Battery Latch Failure ¶
The battery of your Acer Aspire ZG5 will not stay in place, and falls out of the device.
Broken Battery Latch ¶
Check and see if the battery lock on the back of the Acer Aspire One ZG5, the switch on the left side of the battery, is working. Be sure that the switch is set to lock with the corresponding lock picture below.
Also, check and see if the release latch, the switch on the right side of the battery, is set to the left ensuring that the lock is engaged.
If the latch is broken or stuck, you may want to replace the device base enclosure.
Jammed Left/Right Click Buttons ¶
Buttons seem to be unresponsive and not clicking.
Foreign Object Lodged Inside Crease ¶
Make sure that your hands are clean when you are using the Acer Aspire One ZG5. Objects like food, dirt or even dust can accumulate in between your keys. Simply get a small skinny- tool, like a toothpick, to squeeze in between and scoop out the object.
If this doesn't seem to work, you can also buy a can of Compressed Air. This forcibly blows out any objects that may be lodged within.
Distorted Audio ¶
Audio from laptop can become muffled over time and eventually create an internal problem.
Dust Particles in Speaker ¶
Be sure that there are no objects in the way of the speaker to distort the sound. A duster can be swiped over the speakers to pick up any dust that may have built up over time.
If that does not help, take a can of compressed air and blow the air over the speakers to clear away any particles that may be lodged within the speaker compartments.
If neither of these solutions work, you may want to refer to the Disassembly Guide to take the laptop apart to clean from the inside.
Device Not Charging ¶
The Acer Aspire One ZG5 is not charging when connected to a power source.
Charger is not connected properly to electrical outlet ¶
The charger may be connected to the device, but the charger may not be inserted correctly into an electrical outlet for power to be transferred. Also, check to see that the charging cord is not damaged in a way that will disrupt the electrical current.
If there is any damage to the cord, you may want to look into getting a different or new charger for the Acer Aspire One ZG5.
