PlayStation 4 Controller Not Charging

With most instances of your controller experiencing any issue, it could be an issue with the software that allows you to use it. One of the easiest ways to resolve this issue is to reset your controller.

1. Locate the small reset button on the back of the DS4 near the L2 button.
2. Push the button with a small, pointy object, such as an unfolded paper clip (or a similar object). The button is in a tiny hole next to the top right screw on the bottom outer shell.
3. Hold the button down for several seconds, and release.

In addition, updating your controller firmware can also resolve many different issues.

1. Connect the controller to the PS4 using a USB cable.
2. Go to Settings > Devices > Controllers > Update System Software.
3. If there is an update available, then you should update. This will resolve temporary issues with your controller's software.

Like all devices, your controller can collect dust and debris in the charging port, especially if it's a controller that sees everyday use.

• Visually inspect the charging port to see if the port is clean. If your charging cable does not sit flush against the bottom edge, the port may be clogged if it sits at an angle or has a loose fit.
• Removing debris from ports can be a bit tricky due to narrow clearance. Use an air duster and a small implement to pick out the dirt. You can use a toothpick that has been shaved to fit or a non-conductive tools. Avoid inserting anything metal into the port to prevent damage to the controller or yourself.
• If you cannot remove the dirt from your charging port, remove the port assembly and clean the whole board with 90% Isopropyl Alcohol.

If you note damage to the port during cleaning, such as burns or chipped components, then the port itself is more likely the issue and needs to be replaced.

Two components are in use when your controller charges. The charging assembly and the battery. Both of these parts need a proper connection to the rest of the controller, and each needs to function properly to allow proper charging.

• If you've had your controller for an extended period, the battery inside your controller might need replacing. Old batteries are more likely to stop holding charges. Consider replacing the battery with a new one.
• If your controller is not charging after replacing your battery, the issue might be with the charging assembly. Consider replacing the assembly with a new one.

If replacing the battery and the charging assembly does not allow you to charge your controller, the issue might be with your controller's motherboard.

• Disassemble your controller and visually inspect the motherboard for damage (Broken components, burns, liquid damage).
• If needed, replace your controller motherboard with an undamaged motherboard.
