My Problem
The battery was going out on the phone. 100%..78%..20%.. Dead. All in a matter of minutes. Then the home button snapped in two. The poor little iphone 5 was in bad shape. Still had several months until the contract let me get a new phone. It was either fix it, or buy a temporary phone.
My Fix
After reading some of the experiences of people breaking the screen. I was prepared, and even bought a cheap phone, just in case I ruined it. Getting the screen off was a bit tricky, but I was extra careful. After getting the screen off, it was simple. I had the home button and battery replaced in less than five minutes. I was a bit worried about the quality of the parts at first, but the battery seems to last longer than when I first bought it, and the home button feels great.
My Advice
My advice to anyone doing this, is take your time opening the phone. Instead of pulling straight up, target a corner. It's easier to get a corner up and start ther with the prying. It honestly doesn't take as much force as you think. Just take it slow, and you'll be fine.
