How to replace your iPhone 5 battery

1 hour

Easy

My Problem

My battery completely died which meant I could not turn my phone on at all.

My Fix

The repair was a breeze! I'll admit that I was nervous about it but I figured that I had nothing to lose since my phone was no longer working. I watched iFixit's battery replacement video twice but was disappointed with the lack of detail. I found two other videos on YouTube that were very helpful. All of the tools provided worked just as they should. It was somewhat unnerving to hear the cracking sound the battery made when I pried it away from the glue that was holding it in. Fortunately, one of the videos I watched had warned me this would happen. My iPhone 5 is working great now!

My Advice

As several other folks have mentioned, completely removing the screen was unnecessary. While I completed the process, my husband held the screen at a 90 degree angle, and that worked just fine. I was thrilled when the phone powered right up when I finished replacing the battery. I followed the instructions to let the battery go down to 10% and then charge it back up to 100% uninterrupted.
