How to replace your iPhone 5 battery

15 minutes - 1 hour

Moderate

My Problem

The battery in my iPhone 5 had done its job well for 3 years, but, alas, time had taken its toll and the end was near. Rather than prolonging the inevitable, I set the old battery free and replaced it with a new one.

My Fix

The entire procedure took about 20 minutes and was much easier than expected. The tools and instructions provided by ifixit worked perfectly.

My Advice

The screws inside of the iPhone are really tiny. When it comes time to re-install them, a magnetic screwdriver (such as the one sold by ifixit) is essential to hold the screw and put it in the hole where it belongs (unless you happen have fingers roughly equal in diameter to a piece of uncooked spaghetti). Other than that, good lighting and good close-up vision are useful.
