My Problem
My iPhone 4S stopped taking a charge, from any source. I couldn't complete an iCloud back up before the phone died. I couldn't save 3072 photos and videos, precious memories. I danced with my cell carrier. I danced with Apple. I even danced with Apple's only third party choice for data retrieval (RIP OFF artists!). This scam of a company wanted to charge me $1400.00 to pull my photos off my phone. $1400.00!
My Fix
My coworker recommended purchasing a dock connector from Ifixit for $20.00 before giving in to the lunacy of spending $1400.00 to some shysters in lab coats from California. He tackled the task of replacing the dock connector and had it installed in less than an hour. I held my breath as my phone slowly but surely began to charge. I was in tears. Precious memories were given back to me- for $20.00 plus shipping.
My Advice
Always do your research, ask your tech contacts questions, because the solution may not have to cost you a small fortune.
And never panic. It solves nothing.
I am definitely disappointed in Apple for not offering this option and I am disgusted with the third party company for attempting to rob me in order to restore my sentimental memories. But that's another story/rant, to be written SOON.
Back up your phone, not only to the cloud, but to your computer and an external hard drive. My coworker even recommended pulling photos onto a dvd. Guess what I'll be doing this evening?
