Tesa 61395 Tape

My Problem

After installing N2A on an SD Card, my Nook HD+ stopped charging its battery. This probably had nothing to do with N2A, but was a result of the battery charge going too far to recover.

My Fix

If I had written this two days ago, it would not have been positive. (Has nothing to do with iFixit)

The tools ordered worked as designed. There was no problem prying off the top, removing the screws, and pulling the motherboard assembly. With the battery disconnected, I was able to gingerly remove the old battery (that is SOME double-stick tape!).

I installed the new battery I bought on eBay, connected it, and put in a couple of screws to hold the motherboard in. It STILL wouldn't charge. I turned the unit off and went Google-surfing, where I found a tale of a similar problem which required repeatedly taking advantage of the startup in which the system would charge for a few seconds every time the USB cable was connected.

I then played around for a few days, repeating the "manual battery refresh cycles" for fifteen minutes at a time. I discovered something that had not been mentioned, but doing this would almost always cause the wipe-and-restore cycle to eventually start up. Once that happens, well, let's say I decided to let it proceed. This happened several times.

Eventually (actually after a week of my fiddling), the green (normal) LED changed to ORANGE and stayed that way! Woo-Hoo! It sits beside me right now with that orange showing. After a night connected, it had returned to green.

At this point, the Nook seems to be operating correctly, with one exception. The battery icon used to have a "lightning bolt" displayed on the battery when charging. This no longer occurs, but the LED doesn't lie! I'm now at full-charge, and all is well. I'll put the front bezel back on today, but that should be nothing more than applying the 3M iFixit tape to the motherboard assembly, and sticking the bezel back on.

Be careful, and search the Internet when you hit a snag!

My Problem

Dropped phone resulted in broken rear glass.

My Fix

Frankly, I was so scared that I would damage my phone that I avoided doing the repair for weeks. I was not born with the handyman gene and have had some unfortunate experiences in the past. I was also spooked because the replacement back glass I bought had a different kind of adhesive design than was shown most replacement instructions I could find on the internet. But I finally decided that I needed to undertake the repair, as I was unwilling to pay a professional to do it. I bought Tesa 61395 Tape shown in the parts section of the guide, because I figured that I could use it to supplement the adhesive that came with the new cover.

I used a heat gun instead of using the iOpener heating pad, taking care to heat the rear only enough to loosen the cover adhesive. I also watched several videos before starting, because I was pretty uncomfortable even attempting this repair. I was pleasantly surprised at how easily the halberd spudger loosened the rear cover, button bracket, button and chip. That was the end of the instructions in the guide, although, it was also necessary to remove the camera glass.

The guide's instructions for applying the new rear cover to the phone were boiled down to a single terse sentence. That's probably fine for people who are comfortable working on electronics. For me it felt like being left adrift in the middle of the ocean. Some specifics would have been greatly appreciated. Fortunately, online videos provided the missing instructions, enabling me to complete the repair. I was very pleased with the result.

My Advice

I would definitely consider using a heat gun (if available) instead of the iOpener heating pad. I was able to use the spudger to remove the rear cover after heating the broken rear cover for 30 seconds on the gun's lowest setting. It would have taken much longer had I used the heating pad.

The Tesa 61395 Tape came in handy, but I wish I had bought the 2mm width tape instead of 1mm. The hardest part of the repair for me was getting the very fine tape strips into place and then removing the protective paper from the strips. Perhaps my fine motor skills are poor, but handling the narrow tape proved challenging for me, even with good tools.

Once I had the new cover in place, I again briefly used the heat gun to warm up the new adhesive (which was built into the new cover I bought) to achieve a good seal. Again, I feel the guide's instructions for applying the new cover were very inadequate. I was grateful for instructional videos to fill the gap.

My Problem

While running across a parking lot, my phone popped out of my hip holster, and landed on the ground, flat on the screen. Sufficed to say, the screen shattered.

My Fix

The repair went really well. This phone is pretty simple to tear apart. I err on the side of paranoia, so I took my time, which is why it probably took me a lot longer than it may take others.

My Advice

When I bought my screen, it did not come with the bezel or the buttons. I did not notice the guide mentioning any need to remove the bezel from the old screen, but it's not hard to do. It is a little flimsy, though, so be careful. Its basically held on by adhesive, so a little blast from the heat gun, and I was able to pry it off. Again, be a little careful, because you may melt it if you're too liberal with the heat gun. I don't know for sure, as I had no issues, but I could see it being a problem.

Broken Screen on my LG Flex, I called around to a few well know repair shops that fix phones and they all wanted $299. I could have bought a replacement phone on EBAY for $299. So i thought I would try fixing it myself. Since it was already broken, what did I have to lose?

Less than an hour to fix. I watched the repair video several times and then put my laptop in front of me and went step by step thru the repair process. I ordered the replacement screen and a tool kit. About $120 total.

Take your time and don't have fear. Remember that a lot of these repair shops are manned by people that might not have graduated high school. It doesn't mean that all of them are that way, but pretty good bet that they learned how to do the repair by watching the same video online. Why be afraid. It's not that hard.

My Problem

The family has six iPhone 5's and each one had at least one problem that needed repair. I could have gone to the Apple store and waited weeks, or one of those mall kiosks and paid someone to do the repairs. But I can't wait that long and don't want to pay someone else for something I can do myself, and probably better.

My Fix

I had to replace three batteries which had puffed and popped out the phone's screen and three others because they wouldn't last the day, as well as three power and audio control button cables because the power button stopped working, and a cracked screen. It took a few hours to do all the repairs, but every one was a success and all of the phones are as good as new.

My Advice

I worked at the kitchen table, a nice big area with good lighting, and placed a clean white t-shirt down as my work surface. The t-shirt kept screws from rolling around provided some cushioning to the work surface. It even made it easy to find a wayward screw when the screw driver slipped from my hand and sent one flying. I also used a magnifying visor to make life easier on the eyes. Like I said, it killed a few hours to do all the repairs but the money saved was well worth it.

My Problem

I thought I had a crack on the screen of my I-phone 4s, so I order a new screen and battery and I started taking it apart I broke one of the screws so I put it back together and ordered a complete set of screws for it. I got everything and I went to take it apart and when I took off the screen plastic cover I discovered that the screen was fine only the plastic and a scratch in it. So now I have everything I need to repair it if I ever get a cracked screen
