Persistent Innovation ¶

We’ve got a pulse on how electronics are held together. Armed with the data from hundreds of teardowns and thousands of repair guides, our teardown technicians were able to curate the most capable compact toolkit. And it packs a serious punch. Necessity is the mother of invention—and we invented the Pro Tech Toolkit to have the right precision tool to get you out of any tight spot.

From the 64 Bit Driver Kit to the iFixit Opening Picks, every tool is specially designed and selected to maximize your repair capabilities. Contained inside its sturdy compact tool roll, the Pro Tech Toolkit includes two glass-filled nylon spudgers, metal spudger, anti-static wrist strap, 7 KG pull suction cup, angled and blunt ESD safe tweezers, nylon tipped ESD safe reverse tweezers, six opening picks, iFixit Jimmy opening knife, 3 plastic opening tools, magnetic pad for screws, and the 64 bit driver kit.

Quality To The Core ¶

At the core of this kit is the iFixit 64 Bit Driver Kit, designed with extensive research into what fastener types are currently used in the consumer electronics industry and which legacy fasteners are still in demand by consumers. From the Apple Watch with its new tiny Tri-Point screws to vintage Nintendo game consoles with gamebit fasteners, the 64 bit kit covers them all with the highest quality CNC machined bits. Even the sturdy case was carefully engineered, having no hinges or latches to break, and features a sorting tray inside the magnetically attached lid.

My Problem

Dropped phone...broken screen!

My Fix

It went well, the only difficult part was handling the screws, those guys will get lost quick if you let them. Thankfully I had a sorting tray to keep track of them.

My Advice

Take your time and make sure you're connecting the cables to the correct coressponding connectors on the display assembly. Sometimes taking your time can be quicker than rushing and messing something up.

My Problem

iPhone 4s battery wasn't lasting very long anymore

My Fix

The repair was super easy and I had no issues with it, I already had all the tools to replace the battery since I have the pro tech tool kit but getting the liberation kit was really awesome since it came with the replacement screws for the bottom of the phone.

My Advice

Make sure that you have a clear open space to work on because those screws can get misplaced really easy, other than that the whole repair was really easy.

My Problem

My Mac Mini was running slow and showing its age. I wanted to not replace the drive with an SSD, but ADD and SSD like in the server models.

My Fix

Everything went well. I supplemented the trickier steps with a couple YouTube videos for reassurance. I am very happy with the final result and my new Pro Tech Toolkit.

My Advice

Installing the SSD in the original, "lower" slot appears to be the safer approach from the guide comments. You then install the original drive in the upper slot, using the new cable from iFixIt.

My Problem

Screen was cracked and client wanted a replacement.

My Fix

Very well, I was worried about the fingerprint scanner but I was relieved it was still working after reasonably!

My Advice

Dont be afraid to try, this was an eye opener to how easy it is to fix these kinds of devices.

My Problem

iPhone 5 Battery Replacement.

My Fix

Easy repair. Great tools.

My Advice

Very happy.

My Problem

I currently do not have a device in need of repair. I have been buying the needed tools as the repairs come up and have always wanted one of your toolkits instead. So, when this sale came up, I was finally able to buy a kit. I may never need it, but if I do, I'm prepared.

My Problem

Yoga 2 Pro's have bad WiFi Cards, upgrading to AC fixes many other issues.

My Fix

It was so easy, the iFixit toolkit had the exact bits I needed. Then the next stop was the fans, $8 on ebay vs a new laptop! Fans replaced, laptop way better.

My Advice

The ProTech Toolkit does not have a sim tool. Went looking for one thinking 'of course it'll be in my new tech focused tool kit' ... but no. No sim tool. :(

My Problem

My wife accidentally dropped the camera without the housing, causing a dent in the lens... nothing terribly wrong but not perfect for pictures. Bought an original lens at Ebay for 30 usd.

My Fix

Quite smooth, actually it was pretty easy, just be very gentle whenever you disconnect the connectors.

My Advice

Only in step 9. My camera did not have 3 PH screws, it had 2 and one single torx at the top. Have it available if needed.

My Problem

The bottom panel was loose on the base of my laptop, a few screws had come loose during everyday transport

My Fix

Very smoothly, the bit I needed was included in the IFixIt kit.

My Advice

Just like any screw, don't over-tighten, you need to get it snug without wrenching it until you can't any more.

And to make your job easier, in my situation anyway, it is helpful to flex the bottom panel of the computer snug to the device, then you tighten. It helps prevent slipping of the bit you are using.

My Problem

Had a knife with a broken belt clip which used small star head screws. It was better to remove the clip than throw away the knife and find a new knife.

My Fix

Like a charm.

My Advice

No advice.
